The 101 Artists' Colony, an arts center in Encinitas, Calif., is dedicated to encouraging awareness and appreciation for the Arts and Artists of North County. The Colony, located at 90 N. Coast Hwy. 101, is run by volunteer artists and art lovers. It features a performance venue, visual art gallery, and working studio space for artists. Occasionally Music is played here to represent the musical arts. By April 15th, 2007 the 101 Artist Colony must moved from their current location of the last three years. Its unknown at this time where they will be moving too but they have moved before. They hope to find someplace larger near the Hwy 101.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost depends on Artist. Anywhere from Free to $15 usually. Parking is located on the Street. All Ages!

4th & B is a club in Downtown San Diego, literally on 4th and B streets. It is a larger club that has anything from comedy to big name concerts there, as well as local muscians. Typically this club is dark and they have some stadium seating as well as two bars one upper and one lower. A Large stage with a nice sound system. It also sports a large space in front of the stage which has been used as a seating area for some shows, dancing and even a mosh pit. The club is very versatile. It can accomidate several hundred people, and some events are free because they do a good bar business there. But don't expect it to be free. they use a ticket system with the Box office in front. but look around once you go in many times the have free tickets for future events available near the front door. 21+ and up! @ Full Bars. Price depends on artist or event. Parking available on the street or nearby parking garages.

The 710 Beach Club (formerly known as Blind Melon's) is in Pacific Beach on 710 Garnet Ave, San Diego.

It on the street but right on the beach, practically just in front of the pier. With the new name came a new look and they revamped the sound system and fixed the place up. It is more cheery inside now! The sound is better for the customer's, but the stage is still in an alcove of the bar and it still has problems for bands (especially drummers with a full kit) to hear even with the new monitor's. one pool table is available. Most shows start at 7 or 8pm. 21+ and up! Full Bar. Cover depends on the artist. Parking is on the street.

Auld Sod can be found just up the street from Lestat's in Normal Heights at 3373 Adams Ave. San Diego,. It is a quaint Irish Pub. It is a skinny bar and it has a very small area for the bands to play. Sound is better than you'd expect for so small a venue. The people are friendly and the place is packed most days of the week. But it is a fun bar to enjoy the music and the people. 21+ and Up. Full Bar. No cover most of the time but limited space to get in when bands play, so go early! Parking on the street.

First off the name can be a little confusing because the coffeshop is a Starbucks that is located on the corner of the Aztec building on the SDSU campus. Also known as the SDSU - Aztec Shops @ West Commons at 5500 Campenile Dr San Diego,. All Ages! Cost: Unknown. Parking in designated visitor parking on campus.

The Aromas Cafe is found on The University of San Diego campus not to be mixed up with SDSU which is San Diego State University. The SDU campus is located at 5998 Alcalá Park, San Diego. Which is off Linda vista Rd. Aromas can be found in Maher Hall which is the building just to the right of the Immaculaya Church which has the pretty Blue Dome on it! Shows are usually on Saturday and its designation is called - Saturday Night Live: Live music and performances Saturday evenings. Saturdays open late 7p-11p. All Ages! Parking available in designated vistor Parking.

Belly Up can be found at 143 S Cedros Ave in Solana Beach. This tavern is my personal favorite of all the Venues even though I don't make it up there that often. It has a killer sound system, a nice stage, big green room in the back, an excellent bar and you can get food from the restaurant next door right there in the bar. There is even a large dance floor in front of the stage if you like to dance. There is entertainment every day of the week. Hands down the Belly Up is the best place in town for music! 21+ and up. Full Bar. Parking is limited or on the Street.

Brick By Brick can be found on 1130 Buenos Ave. San Diego, just in the Linda Vista area off of Morena blvd. The Brick has great sound especially when there is a good sound man running things. I have only gone and seen Listen Local events here and everytime has been a great time. Plent of room, although people congregate in front of the bar which can make it hard to get to the stage. But acoustics are great so you can hear just as well in the back as in the front. 21+ and up. Cover: Various.full Bar. Parking on the street.

Canes can be found in the same block as the Coaster in Pacific Beach but along the beach diagonally opposite the coaster. Found at 3105 Ocean Front Walk., Pacific Beach. Canes is a large bar that should be one of the best in town. The sound is great when it has a good sound engineer. Oft times some musicians have been unhappy with the sound there? But its still lots of fun to see a show and its right onthe boardwalk and ocean. 21+ and Up. Full Bar. Cover: Various. Parking availble in the adjacent parking lot.

The Casbah can be found at 2501 Kettner Blvd., Kettner and Laurel San Diego. Just before you get to Little Italy, near the airport. I have never been to the Casbah. But a lot of my firnds have played there so its definately someplace to go to! 21+ and up. Full Bar. Cover: Various. Parking on the street.

Cosmos can be found at 8278 La Mesa Blvd.,La Mesa. Just east of the Trolley station it is a coffe shop with a small intimate stage. The stage actually part of the dining room makes for a very intimate way to see some of your favorite musicians. All ages. cover: not often but occasionally. Limited parking in front on the street.

Desi-n-Friends can be found at 2734 Lytton St San Diego. Just off of Rosecrans street. Lytton is a short street opposite where the naval training camp use to be. At one end of Lytton it turns into Barnett St. and at the other end it turns into Chatsworth. I have not been to Desi-N-Friends. I don't know when this bar was opened but in the 80's it was a gay bar that was notorious because it was just accross the street from the naval camp. When i first became 21 a friend of mine happened in there and it was a scene like the movie Police academy and the Blue Parrot Bar. Everyone was in leather motorcycle outfits. We had no problem with that lifestyle but we turned around and left in a hurry! 21+ and up. Cover: Various. Parking on the street.

DreamStreet can be found at 2228 Bacon St., San Diego. DreamStreet has been around for a long time like may of the bars in San Diego. But DreamStreet got a bad reputation in the 80's and 90's for being a dump and many people when asked say "ohhh I'm not going there"! But I have news for everyone. DreamStreet cleaned up their act a few years ago and it is a clean bar with a thriving business. They mostly have metal music playing there but occasionally you can find other types of music. 21+ and Up. Cover:various. Limited parking in front.

Dublin's Squre can be found at 554 Fourth Avenue., San Diego, in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown. One of San Diego's first Irish Pub style bars. The interior of the bar is beautifully decorated in darkwoods and brass and has pipes that are labeled and reputed to be a direct pipeline from Ireland with Guinness Beer. They have a small stage up front and a pretty good sound system. 21+ and up.Cover: Usually Free. Parking on the street or in downtown parking structures.

E Street can be found at 128/130 West "E" Street., Encinitas. I have never been to this venue but it seems to be a better than average cafe from the website info. All ages. Cover:Unknown. Parking Unknown.

House of Blues-San Diego can be found at 1055 Fifth Avenue., San Diego. Newly renovated. building houses some similarities to the chain of restaurants. This one is not as good a copy of the original on Santa Monica Ave. But it is a close second. they have a great sound system there but many times have I seen a sour show because the sound engineer tried to set everyone up at the same levels. doesn't work. Sometimes local musicians call it the House of Rules because it is a corporate run machine and like a machine it is souless. Still I have been to some great shows there for corporately signed musicians. They also have other stages near the upper bar that has music there. the Bar is called Salvation Alley. There have been some pretty good acts from local musicians there. 21+and up. Cover: none in Salvation Alley but the concert hall uses a ticket system with a box office outside. Parking on the street or in downtown parking structures.

Hennessee's Pub can be found in the Gaslamp Quarter at 708 4th Avenue, San Diego. I have never been to Hennessee's yet but keep checking back for a description at a later date!

Hot Java Cafe can be found at 11738 Carmel Mountain Road., San Diego. In the Carmel Mountain Shopping Center. Hot java is a pleasant cafe with couches and a small stage and an adequate sound system for the area. Most of the music or open mic's are brought to us through Hot Rod Harris. They have good beverages and good food available. For slightly larger shows there are folded chairs and there are several tables for an intimate show. All ages. Cover: Free. Parking available in the shopping center parking.

Hot Java Cafe can be found at 6875 El Cajon Blvd. It is on the side of the Salvation Army Store in the front off of El Cajon and up stairs. There is a large sign and can't be missed if you know where to look. They call themselves a cafe but they offer only Instant Coffe at this time but have plans to to have a full bar on the third floor and possible a full sefvice Coffebar. Currently they mosstly do non-Alcoholic mixers witas an underage hip hop club on somedays and a music club featuring local music on other days.

Humphrey's Backstage Music Club can be found at 2241 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego. Part of a large resort style hotel/Inn also called Humphrey's Half Moon Inn. They have concerts mostly during the summer in a area near the center of the complex called Humphrey's by the Bay concerts. But don't mix this up with Humphrey's Backstage. Humphrey's Backstage is a bar next to they resort restaurant that has a stage with an occasional full show. Has a nice dark club atmosphere with a view of the bay and marina. 21+ and up. Full Bar. Cover:$5 or various depending on Band. Parking in resrt area parking lot.

Kirin Sushi is a Sushi restaurant that has entertainment on Friday and Saturday during the week. It is found at 4111 Voltaire St. Point Loma/O.B. San Diego. Many local artists from the San Diego Music Scene play there while people dine on sushi and drink Saki Boms or Plum Wine. So come have some Sushi while listening to great music and have a few Sake Bombs. Shows usually start at 7pm. Restaurant for all ages. The Sake isn't!

Lestat's can be found at 3343 Adams Ave., San Diego. Lestat's is a cafe with a small music club next to it where it has music or Comedy most everyday of the week. A small dark club with a small stage that is designated The Gregory Page Stage. To honor one of San Diego's more famous singer/songwriters who is a regular performer there! There are a couple of tables and mostly steel fold up chairs and some theatre style chairs on the side. Reminiscent of an small theatre of some sort the club has a front merchandise area where they also take the cover charge. All Ages. Cover: Various. Parking on the street.

North Park Vaudeville Candy Shoppe can be found at 2031 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego. I have never been to this theatre or candy shoppe. So check back later for updated information!

The O.B. Farmers market can be found along Newport avenue at the corner of Newport and Bacon St. The music is put on by Beach Music Mafia. Who has been providing music on the avenue and in the OB area for years. All ages. Cover: Free. Parking on the street.

O'Connels is one of the best bars in town. 1310 Morena Blvd., San Diego, CA. It is just over one block and down the street from the Brick By Brick. It came under new ownership in early 2005, since then thay have been providing entertainment to their customers everyday of the month. You can usually find a monthly schedule there but check the Shows On The Near Horizon section for current shows! The bar has several pool tables and an electronic Dart board. They are wonderful owners and some of the nicest people in town! On some rare evenings during special shows you can find free food available. The sound system is great for customers but I think a couple of muscians have had their share of fun with it! Shows start usually at 9pm. 21 And Up! Full Bar. There are covers occasionally depending on artist. Usually a very low cover if not free for most shows.

Portugalia can be found at 4839 Newport Ave., San Diego. In OB between Sunset Cliffs Blvd and Cable Street. Portugalia is touted as the only Portuguese restaurant in San Diego. The food is pricey but worth the money. They have a full bar and occasionally have music in an area set off as a stage. There is a lot of room for a stage and yet they still have many table's available and chair's in front of the stage. They have a fairly good sound system as well. All Ages. Bar is 21+ and Up. Bar is Wine and Beer and maybe a couple of well drinks. Parking in front on the street.

Rosie O'Grady's can be found at 3402 Adams Ave., San Diego. I don't have any info on this venue. Check back later for an update!

Boat & Ski can be found at 2606 North Mission Bay Dr., San Diego. This is my second favorite place to go in town. This venue is specifically a Listen Local venue so all the music is presented by Cathryn Beeks. This is a club so there is a memebership but club is very interested in music so they allow non-members to come to Listen Local events. If an event happens to be on a Friday night then if you get there by 7pm you can buy the Friday dinner for $10, or when an event happens on Sunday there is a breakfast (price unknown at present posibly $8 to 10 dollars) They have an adequate sound system for the area and great bartenders. Club members are very friendly. This is a great enviornment for music and socializing. Also on special events camping and other amenities will happen during Listen Local events. 21+ and Up. Full Bar. Parking is available in limited amounts, also available outside the club grounds.

The Brass Rail can be found at 3796 5th Ave., San Diego. Until Recently The Brass Rail was considered a gay dive bar. But they have done some extensive remodling and have been opening their doors to a more rounded clientel. Its still a bar where more often than not has different lifestyles clientel but now its no longer exclusive for those out there who had a problem with that. It has a fun atmosphere and they have been trying to get more music in there on a more regular basis. So far most of the music has been on Thursdays but they plan on expanding to other days! 21 and up! Full Bar. Usually a small cover. Parking on the street.

The Tiki is a small but fun bar at 1152 Garnet Ave. Pacific Beach. You can find music there many times a week. Parking anywhere in Pacific Beach can be tough on normal days. Pacific beach is a hot spot for young adults whether there is entertainment or not in many of the clubs and bars on Garnet. The Tiki is a quaint small pub like bar and there is not much room for musicians when they play. Musicians usually bring theirBut it is a favorite spot for many local musicians. Their website doesn't update very often and doesn't have much in the way of info, but you can check the Shows On The Near Horizon section for current shows! Shows generally start at 8pm but have been know to start as late as 10pm. Low Drink prices during show. 21 And Up! Beer/Wine and a few mixed drinks. Usually a very low cover if not free for most shows.

The Triple Crown can be found at 3221 Adams Ave. San Diego. Just west of Lestat's by a few blocks. The Triple Crown is a bar with two sections. A bar side and a another room that has a pool table and an window to the Bar. This is where bands play when they have music at The Triple Crown. Sound is adequate. Usually provided by Listen Local. No seats except in the bar section there is a window set in the pool section and occasionally there are some scattered stool's. 21+ and up. Cover: Varies. Parking on the street.

Tropicoso can be found at 1261 Garnet Ave., Pacific Beach. This is a new Venue and I don't have any info on it yet. Soon as I go there I will update this description. Check back often.

Tower Two can be found at 5083 Santa Monica Ave # 1B., Ocean Beach, San Diego. Tower Two is a restaurant just off the beach in Ocean Beach. It has a large deck outside with tables to eat and enjoy the ocean view and the Sun. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and serve Beer, Wine and Champagne. The music is presented outside to enjoy the sun as well. This is usually a Listen Local Production and happens maybe once or twice a month during winter. Possibly more during Summer. I know I would! All ages. Alcohol 21+ and up. Parking in underground garage or on the street.

Turquoise Cafe can be found at 841 Turquoise Street, Pacific Beach. I don't have any info on this venue. And it can be rather confusing. Apparently there are two coffee shops on Turquoise St in Pacific beach with Turquoise in the name. But the one named Turquoise Cafe at 873 is also called the Cafe Bar Europa. This one is not the one where music has been being scheduled. Cafe Europa is at 873 Turquoise. Check back later for an update!

The Whistle Stop Bar can be found at 2236 Fern St., San Diego. I don't have any info on this venue. Chack back later for updates

Winston's can be found at 1921 Bacon St., San Diego. In the heart of Ocean Beach you can find one of the best bars for music in San Diego. A lot of local music is heard there most everyday of the week. A great sound system and friendly people make it an all around great place to go!
