Wow, and again Wow, Went to a show last night at Humprey's Backstage Music Club for a special Screening party for "Scott Wilson's" new Video release "Coffee House 101". All the local talent in San Diego was there or a lot of them anyway. Most of them you can here some of there syuff here on MySpace but it doesn't do any of them justice. There's just no substitute for LIVE music!

San Diego local and talented bands that night were: : "Scott Wilson"  http://www.myspace.com/metapunk  . His video is cool but the band really jams very hard! A really kicking alternative band. I put him first because it was his party, he played in the middle of the program.
The starting singer was "Carlos Olmeda" http://www.myspace.com/carlosolmeda , This guy was the special guest and he kicked off the night with great tunes of his own.
"Citizen Band"  http://www.myspace.com/citizenbandsd  with leads by
Jeff Berkley and his basist and mandolin player was Marcia Claire who is a local favorite who plays with other band too I am told. They really got the juices running and got several people up and dancing. Then they showed the screening of "Scott Wilson'sVideo".

Get this video and more at MySpace.com,
really a great video showcasing a lot of San Diego talent in different local's mouthing the words to his song while he sung and played in the background. If you get a chance to see it you should really enjoy it. They played a couple extra songs due to one of the guest not showing.
"Bart and Kevin" were next they are quirky and local fav's they were in the video too like most of the artists that played tonight. Next was "SweetTooth"  http://www.myspace.com/sweettoothrocks , a really kicking ass alternative band, that were the best rockers of the night up to that point other than "Scott Wilson's Band". SweetTooth stayed on the stage longest because they played backup band for local favorite: "The Cathryn Beeks Ordeal" http://www.myspace.com/cathrynbeeksordeal she belts em out, she has a different quality to her voice but her mannerisms reminded me of Janis Joplin! I hope thats a complement. LOL. The SweetTooth played backup for a guy named "Christopher Dale" (a favorite) http://www.myspace.com/christopherdalemusic I had heard a couple of his songs and liked him right away but he really belted out the songs he did with SweetTooth and I am looking forward to getting his Cd. All of these local musicians sell their Cd's at all of their gigs.. Next they showed the Video again. Then a local legend took the stage. Someone i've talked about before on my blog. "Gregory Page" http://www.myspace.com/gregorypage . He sung several of his favorite tunes. He has been on the stage with folks like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell as well as a few others and a big staple in the local SD music scene.  He has a special engagement himself on Saturday night at the Palms in Rancho Sante Fe. The end of his set paved the way for "Scott Wilson" and band to come up and get the show rocking again! After "Scott" brought the house down after quite a few songs, they showed his video again, that was why we were there after all. then came an interesting band called, "The Grams" (I liked them but no info) they have a girl in the band who plays a synthisized violin. Very interesting, but I didn't stay for the rest of their set because my friends had to go, I felt weird even though I was enjoying the music, but the only other people there were the different band people. All who were extreamly friendly. I just felt out of sorts and there were 4 more bands left and it was 12:30 during the week. I was afraid my carriage would turn into a pumkin! So I split after talking with Gregory Page for a few minutes, . I don't really know how good these other bands were Live, but the songs they present on their MySpace sites are cool like, "Deadline Friday" http://www.myspace.com/deadlinefriday, "Dave Howard" http://www.myspace.com/davehowardmusic, "The Wild Truth" http://www.myspace.com/thewildtruth , and "Will Edwards" (no info). I didn't get to see these last 4 but I have checked out most of them, so should you!
I'm Out!

Ciao
